The Stewarts Creek Arts Academy (SCAA) is a two week intensive theatrical training program for students entering grades 2-9 to take place June 3-14, 2024 at Stewarts Creek High School. Students are immersed in a rigorous, professional, educational experience, combining fun, experiential, interactive classes with direct, hands-on performance opportunities.
-
Daily classes in Acting, Stage Movement, Musical Theater, Music Composition, and Choral Music.
-
Featuring a staff of experienced arts educators who are all working professionals in their fields .
-
Classes based on the National Core Arts Standards for each grade level.

Participants receive one-on-one instruction with distinguished professionals in each discipline and collaborate with other students on small group projects or performances. SCAA strives to enrich the student both as a performer and as a person by focusing on the intrinsic links between creativity and discipline and between reflection and character. Students will be challenged to approach the theatrical training through critical thinking, observation, and analysis.
This is more than just a theater/music camp! After two weeks students will know the basics of:
-
Piano skills. Every student comes out reading music and knowing the notes of the keyboard. Classes are divided according to previous skills; beginners and advanced students welcome.
-
Stage movement. How to use your body to convey meaning to an audience.
-
Vocal music. Students learn an Italian art song, choral music pieces in English and Latin, musical theater, and the fundamentals of vocal health and technique.
-
Acting. In hands-on, interactive classes, students study character development in a sequential curriculum designed for the emerging actor.
-
Instrumental Music/Composition. Spend time with digital music stations composing music, experimenting with our Beats Laboratory, and drumming.
-
Technical Theater. All students get hands-on experience running and designing lights, setting up microphones and tracing audio signal through analog and digital sound boards, and even guided instruction in set building and power tools.
